Bamboozle Cloud Engine

Floating IPs

A floating IP can be detached from one virtual machine and reattached to another in seconds — without any DNS changes required.

How a Bamboozle floating IP fails overTraffic from the internet reaches a floating IP. When VM A fails, the floating IP is reassigned to VM B in seconds, keeping the same public address with no DNS change. Internet Floating IP VM A VM B Reassigned in seconds Same public IP · no DNS change

Key Capabilities

What It Does

Built into Bamboozle Cloud Engine — available in all three regions, managed from Cloud Control.

  • Instant IP Reassignment

A floating IP can be detached from one VM and reattached to another in seconds — with no DNS changes, no IP lease waiting period, and no downtime for the new target.

  • Zero-Downtime Failover

When a VM becomes unhealthy, reassign its floating IP to a standby instance immediately. Traffic resumes on the new VM without clients needing to change any configuration.

  • VM & Load Balancer Assignment

Floating IPs can be assigned to individual VMs or to load balancers. Assign to a load balancer to expose a pool of VMs behind a single stable public IP.

  • Works with Security Groups

Security group rules apply to floating IP traffic — you control exactly which inbound ports and protocols are reachable on the public IP, independently of the private network rules.

  • Stable Public Address

Unlike dynamic IPs assigned at VM creation, floating IPs are yours until you release them. Use them for DNS records, SSL certificates, and external integrations that require a stable address.

  • Kubernetes LoadBalancer Support

Pre-create floating IPs and assign them to Kubernetes LoadBalancer services. Ensures your Kubernetes service endpoint has a predictable, stable public IP before the service is deployed.

Use Cases

How Floating IPs Are Used

Stable public addresses that move with your workloads — not tied to a single VM or lifecycle.

  • Single VM public IP assignment
  • Load balancer public IP assignment
  • Kubernetes LoadBalancer service IPs
  • Zero-downtime failover between VMs
  • Live migration with stable IP
  • Blue/green deployment switching
  • DNS A-record stable addressing
  • SSL certificate stable addressing
  • Multiple floating IPs per project
  • Compatible with all VM flavors
  • Works with all three DC regions
  • Instant reassignment (no waiting period)

Getting Started

How It Works

All networking features are self-service — available in Cloud Control in minutes.

  1. Allocate Floating IP

From the Networking section in Cloud Control, allocate a floating IP from the public address pool. The IP is reserved for your project until you release it.

  2. Assign to VM or LB

Associate the floating IP with a virtual machine or load balancer in your project. The VM receives the public IP as an external address on its network interface.

  3. Use the Public IP

Point DNS records, configure SSL certificates, and share the address with external services. The IP remains stable regardless of VM reboots or migrations.

  4. Reassign Instantly

When you need to move the IP — for failover, upgrade, or scaling — detach from the current resource and attach to the new one. No downtime, no DNS TTL wait.
