Frequently Asked Questions
Where do the power figures come from?
They are typical draw at a mid-range configuration, not nameplate PSU ratings. A 1U server with an 800 W supply rarely draws more than 400 W in practice, and quoting the supply rating would inflate every allocation. If you have measured figures for your own machines, use the Something else line and enter them — measured beats estimated every time.
My exact model is not listed.
The catalogue covers the common families across three generations each, which is most of what gets racked. For anything else, add Something else, set the rack units and watts, and describe it in the notes. Nothing is lost — the quote is written by a person who reads the whole configuration.
What do I need to send with the hardware?
Rails, and any speciality cabling. Standard cables we provide free of charge — power leads, Cat patch and 10G fibre — so a forgotten patch lead never delays an install. What we do not stock is speciality cabling: vendor stacking cables, 100G DAC and AOC, breakout cables, anything proprietary to your kit. Send those with the machines, and list them in the notes so we can confirm before the shipment leaves.
Is there a setup fee?
No fixed fee. Installation is billed as Smart Hands, by the minute, starting when we unpack the shipment and ending when the hardware is racked, cabled, powered and answering on out-of-band. Billing by the minute rather than rounding up to the hour means a ten-minute job costs ten minutes. What it comes to depends on how much you are racking and how much structured cabling it needs — the quote sets it out.
Why does depth matter?
Rail and cabinet depth decide whether your hardware physically fits, and it catches people out more often than power does. The figures here are chassis depth without rails or cable management, so allow extra. If your deepest device is unusual, say so and we will confirm against the actual cabinets before quoting.
Is this a price quote?
No. It produces a quote request. Colocation pricing depends on space, power, connectivity, contract length and what else you take, so we do not publish a calculator that would be wrong more often than right. You get a written quote within one business day.
Can I colocate less than a full rack?
Yes — from a single rack unit. Most facilities in this market start at a quarter rack, which is around ten units whether you need ten or one. See colocation for how per-unit colocation works.
Where would the hardware sit?
Dubai DX1, our carrier-neutral facility, with 24/7 smart hands. Fujairah FJ1 and Vienna VIE2 run cloud, backup and disaster recovery rather than colocation — which is the combination most colocated customers end up with anyway.
